"Gennetines" or Le Grand Bal de l'Europe: Les Gauthiers is a little old farm on the road from Gennetines to Moulins, that is now a big dance space, a dozen marquees offering several dance workshops each day, lots of dances in the evenings, food and 'plus d'ambience'. They run workshops all year, but the main event - unforgettable experiences, listening to great French and other European musicians get together - now happens during the last week of July and first week of August.
You can go for a week or longer, but they'd prefer not as a drop-in for a day or two, as they aim to build a dancing community. Camping is on site or there are B&Bs/chambres d'hôte nearby, and hotels in Moulins.
Pre-booking is essential for everybody, through the website, by mid-June. You pay when you get there.

COMBOROS, is run by Les Brayauds, at St Gervais d'Auvergne. A bit further south from Gennetines, into the mountains, this happens in the first week of August. A minimal (loos & showers) festival campsite is set up next to the municipal campsite, which has full facilities; and there some hotels in the town. https://www.facebook.com/brayauds

Embraud: a smaller and more intimate experience is the La Chavanée festival - the very best of music and dance over a weekend, with dances, workshops, food and concerts, hosted by La Chavanée's Paris family and friends. On a rural site not far from St Pierre de Moutier and Nevers, where the Allier and Loire rivers meet, and quite cheap. You camp at Le Veurdre's municipal campsite, about 3 km away; there are chambres d'hôte in the area. On the Sunday, there is a defilé of hurdy-gurdies through Le Veurdre, visiting each café, ending up at the Maison des Batelliers, a little museum of river life and boating on the Allier. Magical! On the last weekend in July, at Chateau-sur-Allier, with other weekends and small events through the year
Fête de la Vielle, Anost, Morvan 71550 mid-3rd week of August

This is a lovely festival to finish off the summer with, just north of the French/Belgian border between Namur and Liege. Camping is in the field, and facilities reasonable. Book through the Facebook page. Great mix of Belgian, French, Irish, Swedish people as well as bands.
